Tencent Invests in Riot Games

So it appears that Riot Games Inc. finally got some more resources to develop, grow and support League of Legends and it's users. It also says that Tencent Holdings Limited has acquired a majority stake in the company, which pretty much, in my eyes, means that Riot Games Inc. just got bought up by the Chinese. It's at least somewhat comforting that they state their headquarters will remain in the same location as ever, they will keep their independent operations and their existing management team will continue to lead all aspects of the company. No financial terms are released as far as I know.

“This is exciting news for 'League of Legends' players and the existing Riot Games team,” said Brandon Beck, CEO, Riot Games. “Tencent's investment will provide our talented team of designers, developers and community staff with additional resources to focus on innovating around ‘League of Legends’ and launching new projects that push the boundaries in the gaming space.”

It's good to know that Riot Games Inc. got their hands on some hard cash, and they also state that it will, and I quote; "Will provide our talented team of designers, developers and community staff with additional resources to focus on innovating around 'League of Legends' and launching new projects that push the boundaries in the gaming space"

Now.. Considering their long list of false promises, like the unplanned maintenances to "increase server stability", I am left skeptical to the entire statement. What will the prioritize first? Increasing server stability, better game engine, removal of Adobe AIR or perhaps release of new champions and in-game content, or will they just blow it all away and start on a new, blank project instantly?

I personally truly hope they will prioritize server stability, closely followed by the removal of Adobe AIR, which hopefully would result in a nice, lag-free, stand-alone launcher. Who wouldn't love to get in a game with the correct masteries and runes for once?

“Tencent is committed to delivering premium quality online games to global gamers and Riot has proven its capability in the development of its flagship title,” said David Wallerstein, Senior Executive Vice President of Tencent. “Tencent will provide the Riot team with the support and autonomy to continue to deliver high quality experiences that impress both fans and critics in the global gaming market.”

If every single statement in this article is true, I believe we soon got an entire new and better League of Legends available for patching. And yes; It's truly a dream come true!

So what do you guys think? A bucket of false promises, or something we should look forward too? Also; Is there anything I missed in the article that I should put up for discussion?

Mowen - Raging about Raging

So, I know when we play League of Legends and we aren't in a premade, a lot of times you will get a horrible team. Yes, it sucks. Yes, it isn't fun. But you know what? Raging doesn't help!

When you throw on your cruise control for cool (that would be CAPSLOCK) and start yelling at the Warwick about how he should be ganking your lane because these noobs are pushing your turret and that he's a noob for not being 6 yet... Guess what? Do you think if YOU were Warwick you would want to help that douchebag yelling at you for no reason? NO! In fact you'd probably rather help gank the other lanes that aren't yelling at you and telling you how to play.

This is what you SHOULD say: "Warwick, when you hit 6 please come gank my lane, they are way overextended and it'll be ezmode!" and the the Warwick goes "kk! :D"

You're happy, Warwick's happy, you get kills, your team has better unity, and believe me, team unity is important. A team that doesn't like eachother isn't going to work together very well. Your teammates will let you die when you're in a bind instead of trying to help you if they don't like you. So even when you're not in a premade, guess what? You should still be polite and respectful to your teammates! I can't tell you how many times someone has ruined a game for me because they whine and complain that no one picked a tank or we all picked casters or we're noobs for not letting him mid, WHATEVER! This dampens the mood for everyone, and will give you a bad start. Your team will not feel confident because you are instilling a feeling of worry in them. You should instead say "Well since we have all casters we should focus on early game and try to win early, because if we don't they will overcome us." This provides them with information that is helpful and does it in a way where it will keep morale high since you have told them a way to still win the game with this team composition.

Even if it is late game you still shouldn't rage even if you think you will probably lose. I've seen many huge turnarounds in games that you could've never expected, and when you cause anger between the team this is much less likely to happen because your team won't want to stick together and fight as a team.

So remember kids, be all like ":D" not like ">:O"!

League Judgement: Karma, The Enlightened One

Source: League Judgement - Karma - Pure Copy/Paste.

Candidate: Karma
Date: January 28th, 21 CLE

OBSERVATION

Karma emerges into sight on the wings of prestige. From the topmost tip of her mantle to the lowest hem of her gown, she is the perfect picture of Ionian class. She pauses, poised at the threshold, admiring the delicate ornamentation that League artisans crafted into the Great Hall. Karma has seen the Great Hall on numerous occasions, but her eyes manage to well with appreciation in every instance. As she crosses the hall, grace drips from every movement, and she wades in an air of distinction.

At the marble doors, she touches the frame delicately. They part gently for her, as if they were trying to match the elegance of her motion. She vanishes through the archway, and the room left behind feels emptier than it had before she entered.

REFLECTION

The meticulous artistry of the Institute always reminded Karma, by curious contrast, of the chaos of open war. Every inset groove was, to her, the face of a lost friend. She imagined what her fallen comrades might have thought of this comparison when a horribly familiar, acrid stench stung her nose. She turned in time for a brilliant green explosion to fill her view. She swept her steel fans against the blast, piercing a hole in its expanding wave. Her reaction, though immediate, only diminished the force. She focused her senses inward as air whipped past. Her form was steel while her hair and clothes swirled in the chaos. When the blast subsided, her once-immaculate locks hung in limp disarray and her dress was torn and caked with soil.

There was something unusual about the soil – a pungent smell. Blood. She looked up, bracing for the worst. Nonetheless, she was unprepared for what she saw. No, no...not again. In front of her, as far as she could see, lay the strewn bodies of Ionian villagers. Another green explosion in the distance sent cadavers arcing through the air. The taste of salt stung her lips. She didn’t even notice the tears tracing down her cheeks. She saw a shoe, much too small for any adult, raised from the ground ahead of her. A small leg extended beneath it, disappearing into the soil.

Karma snapped upright, raking the air around her with both fans. Tears and soil matted with blood flew away from her. When all settled she was transformed, emotions absent, eyes dark but calm. She was powerful, noble, the picture of dignity against a backdrop of unimaginable horror.

She strode with purpose towards a cackling figure in the distance. Its silhouette was one she could not forget: Zaun’s insane chemist, Warwick. He stood behind a glowing control panel atop an armored, beetle-shaped vehicle. He gesticulated with zeal as each explosion bit the Ionian landscape. He was human, although the lacking lycanthropy did not register with Karma. She was beyond thought, beyond emotion; ready to do what she must to stop what was happening in front of her.

Zaunite shock troops assembled before her, blocking her path. A wave of her fan and they were gone, their cries muted by the roaring gust. Warwick noticed her with glee. His fingers danced across the controls and a cannon extended from the transport beneath him. It fired a sickly green stream of liquid into the air above her, where it burst like a liquid firecracker. She thrust one fan into the air above her head, blowing back a portion of the falling ooze, though far less than she’d expected. Drops rained down around her. Where the drops touched her skin, they sizzled and burned through it. Karma cried out in agony.

“Delicious isn’t it, Duchess?” Warwick exclaimed. “I call it an Aerial Corrosive Mine. The acid is several times heavier than mercury, so your wind techniques won’t protect you.”

Karma crumpled to the ground, the acid boring into her flesh. She pushed herself up to a cross-legged meditative pose, blinked back the searing pain, and uttered a healing mantra. The pain lessened, although it still consumed her.

“It’s not meant to be fired into the air that way. I just wanted you to savor the taste. I’m afraid when I fire it directly at you, your delicate ‘weapons’ will be useless.”

A tinny voice chirped something indiscernible from the control panel. Warwick listened for a moment, and then nodded his head. “I would truly love to play with you some more, Duchess, but there are more Ionians in need of my services.” Warwick fiddled with the controls and the cannon lowered, aimed squarely at her. “This ends now.”

Karma blinked. Her mind was sluggish, flooded with frantic damage reports from nerves all over her body. A single thought floated to the surface of her awareness.

I’ve failed.

Just as she consigned herself to join those scattered around her, a blinding ray of light descended from the heavens, landing squarely on Warwick. He screamed as his skin melted away. His body contorted, muscles bursting outward. His head and limbs stretched, yanking joints apart and forming new ones. Long claws cut through the tips of his fingers and toes. He wrenched forward, then back, and when the spasms ceased his spine was long and hunched. His high-pitched wail suddenly turned to gravel, and blue hair stabbed out from every pore of his body. He fell to the ground in a heap. The light subsided.

Not far from him, a new form lay in the mud. Karma fought her way to her feet, acid still eating into her, and stumbled to the form. There in front of her laid Soraka, the spiritual icon of her people. The Starchild had lost the celestial radiance which characterized her transcendence. She lay staring upward, her expression vacant.

Reason overpowered remorse, and suddenly Karma knew she was seeing an illusion.

Soraka’s gaze turned to Karma, her eyes piercing her soul for answers. “Why do you want to join the League, Karma?” The voice was sad, resigned.

“Is this vision not enough?” Karma gestured all around them. The pain was suddenly gone. “This isn’t really over. These things never really end. All we can do is remain vigilant and try to protect those we love.”

“Always one for a speech.” Soraka smirked. “How does it feel, exposing your mind?”

“There is nothing on my mind that I wouldn’t happily share with you. How does it feel, knowing what we suffered, what you chose to ignore?”

Karma was suddenly alone in the antechamber of the Institute, the doors ahead opened to the League. She appraised her clothes, which were as pristine and spotless as when she entered. With an imperceptible shift, Karma summoned her composure and marched onward.

Karma, The Enlightened One

Join me in a united cheer of joy as yet another female Champion steps into the Institute. Her name is Karma, The Enlightened one. Whatever she might be enlightened I have yet to discover..

Seeing as Karma can be played both as an AP Carry and a support Champion, I'm quite sure many of you will find her interesting. She utilizes a new resource system called 'Mantra', and those who learn how to control this will surely be rewarded greatly in both win streaks and masses of influence points!

Take a look at the spotlight, and feel free to discuss her in the comments below.

Football & Me

Football. Always in the news. Always on TV. If you have a television, you can watch football. Sometimes it feels like the whole freaking world is based on football. Is 'Manchester United' their religion, and 'Ole Gunnar Solskjaer' their god? I'm actually impressed that Fox managed to put in the president election before football.

For most football supporters, the general reaction when their team scores is;
"YEEEES!!! IN YOUR FACE MOTHER F*blip*ERS!! AHHH!!!!"
Of course, we also have the reaction when their team loses, or their favorite player gets a red card;
"WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS?!" *Beer Bottle + TV*
Do they even know how stupid they look? Running around, colored like the rainbow, chasing after a ball, trying to shoot it in the opposite teams nett. People trying to catch a pig looks somewhat the same. And not to mention the supporters that look little birds waiting for their mommy to feed them..

Quickly Photoshopped for your viewing pleasure

I mean.. Whats the point? And how bored do you have to actually be to come up with something like this?

"Ok, guys. I've come up with this extremly fun game. Take those six stick and the fishnet over there. Now take the sticks and form a square and attach the fishnet to it. Then take this bag and fill it with air. Good. Now.. RUN AFTER THE BAG! Ok! Now KICK the bag! Kick it again! AGAIN! Shoot it into the fishnet! Into the fishnet, John! INTO THE..!"

TL;DR:

Running after a ball:  Ok..
22 guys running after a ball: Right, ok. I can roll with that. Its group-exercise, right?..
22 guys running after a ball while millions are watching: Wha...
22 guys running after a ball while millions are watching and people are betting all their money on 22 guys running after a ball while millions are watching: ..........

So.. What I actually think is:
Football is a good way to waste time and money. I'm sure its other sports worse than football, but its football that "gets me".

Take care! (Yes, I had too!)
